Hi again NWC2015 Friends!
Wow, it’s been a hectic couple of weeks on the road with the #NWC2015 #TrophyTour team! Not only have we been invited to visit so many fabulous netty events, but we’ve also celebrated 100 Days to Go until the Netball World Cup SYDNEY 2015 (NWC2015)!
Myself and the entire Trophy Tour team spent the morning of our 100DTG celebrations out at Emu Heights Public School, along with special guests Sharni Layton, current Australian Diamonds squad member and reigning 2011 World Champion, Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith and Minister for trade, Major Events and Sport, and Marne Fechner, Chief Executive for NWC2015. Everyone was keen for a pic with the Trophy and an autograph from Sharni – some lucky kids even got an autograph from me…that’s “Nettie…with an ie”….tee hee!
We also had some great visits with our local netball associations. We stopped by Penrith District Netball Association’s start of season official March Past, where I met some fabulous mini Nettie’s who looked amazing…I thought that I was looking into a mirror – well done girls you are really in the Netball World Cup spirit with those outfits. We are really hoping to see you dressed like that at Netball World Cup…and I am sure that many more will join you!
It was also great to stop by Hawkesbury City Netball Association, where Diamonds’ legend, Liz Ellis, began her netball career – where we pumped out some of Liz’s favourite warm up tunes from the 2000s…and it was great to see that rain, hail or shine, our future Diamonds were loving their netball!
It was amazing to have the opportunity to join the fan activities at Allphones Arena on Sunday 3 May for the NSW Swifts home game against the Melbourne Vixens. A highlight of our day was having Australian Diamonds coach Lisa Alexander join us for meeting and greeting the fans with our Trophy Tour activation – thanks so much for popping by Lisa! The NSW Swifts also created history for the Club on this day with a record 10,370 fans, in attendance for a regular season home game. We can’t wait to be back in August at Allphones Arena for our Netball World Cup from 7 – 16 August (www.nwc2015.com.au/tickets) and seeing the huge crowds once again!
Last weekend we hit the road travelling north , this time stopping off on the Far North Coast to visit the lovely folks at the Grafton Netball Association. It was a beautiful Autumn day in Grafton, and it was great to see so many keen Net Se Go netballers out and about with their families.
Travelling even further north, we drove through Ballina for a quick photo stop at the iconic Big Prawn, and then crossed the NSW/QLD state line and found ourselves on Queensland’s sunny Gold Coast! We headed to the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre where it was a rematch of last year’s ANZ Championship Grand Final, between the Queensland Firebirds and Melbourne Vixens. There were plenty of keen netty fans out and about, and we also ran into Gold Coast Mayor, Tom Tate!
Just looking back I am overwhelmed by the generosity and hospitality we have been shown across all of those kilometers…and still we’re not slowing up just yet!
Make sure you check out our Facebook page to see if your photo with me is there! And if it’s not, you can tag us into your own images on Twitter or Instagram, (#nwc2015) or even send us your snaps to email@example.com.
We are on the road headed south already and have headed to some of the most southern based netballers in Australia…so stay tuned to my NETTIE adventures.
Until next time,
